About us
We are here to help parents raise happy and healthy children
Portland Kindergarten started trading in 1990, as a family business and evolved by 2002, into a Limited Company. It is still run by the daughter of the original founder business.
Our Kindergarten & Pre-school group are situated on Tentercroft Street in Lincoln City Centre. Less than a 5 minute walk from the Bus and Railway Station. It is also within easy reach of the University and has a Medical Centre around the corner. It has very easy access from all parts of town and adequate drop off and parking facilities.
We aim to ensure all children feel happy and content so that they have the confidence to explore their surroundings and develop across all areas of the Early Years Curriculum. Both our indoor and outdoor environment are carefully set up with resources to enable children to be active learners and our experienced team provide learning experiences that are based around each individual child.
We received a good Ofsted in our most recent Ofsted inspection. You can access this report on the Ofsted website or we can provide one on request.
Our happy secure environment provides the very best in nursery daycare.

Age-specific support for every stage

Infant
Our baby room provides a cosy, stimulating area for our youngest children, the under-2s. A small group of nine children ensures every child gets high quality care and is valued as an individual.
As well as a large play room, the baby room has a separate sleep room — a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the main room. The routine stays flexible, so each child’s sleep and meal patterns are respected alongside stimulating activities.
We use treasure baskets, natural resources, and baby babble time to give every child a multi-sensory experience.

Toddlers
The toddlers are based downstairs with access to two play rooms. Children explore messy areas and water trays, and take part in role-play — shoe shops, doctors, or vets — depending on their interests. A cosy corner offers a place to rest or hear a story.
As in every room, each child has their own key person, who plans activities around that child’s individual needs, development, and interests — so there’s always something to motivate them as an active learner.

Preschool
The pre-school group has access to a large space and is encouraged to build personal and social skills and independence — children select their own resources and help prepare their own snacks.
Activities are planned around each child’s own interests and challenge level. Once a week, the pre-school children go on an afternoon trip to learn about our surroundings and community — recent trips have included the cathedral, Pets at Home, the library, and the Collection museum.
Outdoors
Our garden is large and spacious and we ensure we provide children with the same quality learning experience that we provide indoors. We go out in all weathers and the children benefit from natural and open ended large scale equipment that they do not have access to indoors. We have a cosy corner where children can watch the birds at the bird table or have a story. A number of dens to explore as well as a digging area to search for worms or even treasure. Also a climbing frame to help develop gross motor skills. We have a number of resources for children to develop their physical skills including bikes, cars, scooters and large wooden building bricks
